Thunderbird: Basics


This category lists the most basic information on installing, setting up and using Thunderbird.

Thunderbird will be the mail software supported by the University Computer Center in the future. Even though Outlook and other IMAP clients basically work with the new server, Thunderbird offers the use of special add-ons that facilitate the synchronization of calendars and address books.

The following must be done to install Thunderbird:

1. download Thunderbird

Thunderbird can be downloaded from the following page:
https://www.mozilla.org/de/thunderbird/


2. install Thunderbird

Execute the file and perform the setup with the desired parameters


3. start Thunderbird

Double-click on the Thunderbird icon.
After installation, you must first set up an account by clicking on "Skip and use my existing e-mail address" in the window that pops up.
Enter the desired name, the e-mail address and the corresponding password.
Click on "Next". Then click on "Done".
The password will now be tested and the mail account should be set up.
